While a video is currently playing, if you press either of the freeze frame keys, the video will pause.

A subsequent press of either of the freeze frame keys will either advance the video on one frame or reverse the video one frame.

Both these keys can be held to rapidly advance or reverse through the frames.

Holding down the frame advance key can¹⁾ play through a video in real time, with sound.

Holding down the frame reverse key can1) play through a video in reverse in real time, but without sound.

Other videos will simply play in slow motion.

When you subsequently release the key, the video will pause on the frame you got to²⁾.

depending on the resolution and video rate of the video, and the capabilities of your machine

there may be a slight delay between you releasing the key and the video pausing: this is because the repeated keystrokes in the keyboard buffer are still being processed
