  • in each case the [TAB] or [T] key can be tapped once to make a single jump, or it can be held down for rapid tabbing and to “fast forward” or “fast reverse” through the media file
  • when you tab, the notification area in the bottom right corner will confirm how many seconds you've skipped.

More soon on how the different resolutions of video files can affect tabbing.

A Response to a User Enquiry on GitHub

MMP contains several controls for fast forward/rewind, including being able to do this on several videos at the same time.

Fast forward and rewind can be done in two main ways (and two lesser ways):

1. the keyboard [TAB] key

  • pressing or holding down the [TAB] key fast forwards by one second
  • holding down a [Ctrl] key and pressing or holding down the [TAB] will fast rewind by one second
  • if you add a [SHIFT] key, fast forwards/backwards will jump by two seconds
  • using [TAB] you can fast forward through an entire playlist of videos, either by one second or two seconds at a time

2. the keyboard [T] key

  • [T] can be pressed singly or held down for rapid repeat - called [T]abbing
  • [T] tabs/jumps/skips/advances forwards or backwards by larger increments than [TAB]
  • [T] tabs forwards or backwards a set fraction of the duration of the entire video.
  • the actual number of seconds skipped will be reported in the MMP notification area (bottom right corner)
  • [T] by itself will advance (“tab”) forwards by 100th the duration of the video
  • Ctrl-[T] will rewind by 100th the duration of the video
  • Shift-[T] will fast forwards/rewind by one 50th of the duration of the video
  • Ctrl-Shift-[T] will fast rewind (play backwards) by one 50th of the duration of the video
  • if the [Caps Lock] key is on, pressing [T] will fast forward by one 200th the duration of the video
  • if the [Caps Lock] key is on, pressing Ctrl-[T] will fast rewind by one 200th the duration of the video
  • using the [T] key you can tab (fast forwards) at differing rates through an entire playlist of videos
  • tabbing by a 50th/100th/200th of the video duration, rather than a set number of seconds, allows you to tab through all videos at the same rate relative to their various durations
  • if you have [Numlock On], tabbing with either [TAB] or [T] will control all MMP windows simultaneously

3. If you hold down a [Ctrl] key and move the mouse along the progress bar, MMP will rapidly “scrub”/“jog” backwards and forwards through the video

4. In the Audio & Video Timeline Editor, you can do the same by grabbing the vertical cursor and dragging it backwards and forward along the timeline
